Get Rid of Stubborn Holi Colors: 3 Beauty Hacks to Protect Your Skin & Hair
Holi, the most fun-filled festival is around the corner, bringing with itself a lot of vibrancy. Are you still afraid to get drenched with the colors of joy? Nevertheless, I am sure I would be speaking your mind if the post-Holi-mess and possible skin damage has bothered you and prohibited you from getting indulged. Well it shouldn’t, as we have few tips for you to follow that will not only help your body but will also help your hair to get rid of artificial colors.
Measures to Follow Before You Hit the Ground!
- Cover-up – Cover your body as much as you can. Lesser the area exposed, lesser it is smeared in color. There is no better protection than that being offered by physical protection of clothes. You’d want to pull on those full-length denims and full sleeved tops/t-shirts. Guys, it may be good to show off that abs and flaunt hair, but reserve it for the Holi-after-party. Cover your hair. Wear a cap, scarf or turban before playing Holi.
- Moisturize – Before heading out, apply a thick layer of moisturizer all over the body, especially to the exposed areas. If you want more protection you could layer it with some petroleum jelly too. Petroleum jelly should also be applied over the ears, lips and other sensitive skin areas. Don’t reapply the moisturizers in between while playing since it can lock the color inside!
Massage your scalp with coconut-based oil an hour before you get into the Holi celebrations. The coconut-based hair oil not only helps in forming a protective sheath on the external covering of your hair (cuticle) but also helps in getting the colors too come off easily.
- Remain Hydrated – Keep yourself well-hydrated by drinking lots of water, juices as well as glucose. This prevents dehydration, which can otherwise cause your skin to get dry and become more vulnerable to harsh colors.
Measures to Follow After the celebrations!
- Wash-off – After enjoying the playful session, it becomes important to remove the colors when they still wet as getting rid of dry colors becomes quite difficult. Use lukewarm water to wash off colors from your body.Wash your hair with shampoo and let it stay for at least 10 minutes before you finally wash it off. Conditioning your hair with a rich and deep conditioner will also help you till some extent. As it is oftenly said that if the oil is being applied overnight before playing Holi then the colors get off easily. Therefore, in order of getting hold of dry and damage hair apply oil thereby sleeping overnight and washing it the next day using a mild shampoo and a conditioner.
- Home-remedy – Rub lemon edges over your skin to get rid of the colors. Lemon also helps to restore the chemical balance of the scalp. After showering, you can use home-made remedies like curd, sandalwood, turmeric, besan, white flour scrub or multani-mitti scrub on stubborn color so that it goes away. You can also apply a granular scrub on the body and face to get rid of the colors thoroughly. Do not bleach, shave, wax or go for facials or clean ups the following week.
- Moisturize – As most of us play Holi in the craziest way and spend the rest of the day cleaning ourselves by taking a shower to wash off the entire color. Therefore, after making the vigorous efforts to get rid of the colors with soaps, it becomes important to follow up with a soothing moisturizer, preferably a type meant for sensitive skin. The color eventually goes off but also takes the moisture from your skin. And to regain that lost moisture you can even apply a good moisturiser content to the skin for making it look completely nourished. And for hair deeply cleanse and condition it. Also, a hair mask can be applied after 2-3 days to treat the damage done to your hair texture.
